API technical support

Is there an email address for API technical support?

Relying on this forum seems patchy at best. Sometimes they reply the same day, sometimes in a few weeks or months, sometimes not at all.

We’re trying to build an integration and our partnerships contact seems unable to answer our technical questions nor put us in touch with someone who can.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your message, and sorry that you have found getting answers to the questions slow. We do not have an email address for API technical support.

The way FreeAgent thinks of the forum is as a place for folks who are using the API to ask questions and get answers from the community, as much as from the company. We do not provide an expected response time on the forum for this reason, though the forum is monitored by FreeAgent engineers. This is also why you’ll see engineers pointing people at our wonderful support team for questions about how FreeAgent works.

For people working on an integration in partnership, as you’ve said, you should be able to get an answer to your questions via your contact. I understand you have raised a range of questions this way, and we’re in the process of gathering answers for you. Ideally this will also result in updated documentation, or answered API questions on the forum so other people people can find answers themselves in the future.

On that note, you asked about Landlord company types yesterday. We have an answer for that already, so I’ll go and deal with that now.

If you need other questions answered in the meantime, do feel free to post on the forum again or reach out to your integrations contact.

Hi James,

Thanks for the quick reply on this occasion, I really appreciate it.

It does seem a little strange that we can’t get in touch with an engineer directly to help us get our integration right. Asking these questions in public, not knowing when we’ll get a response, doesn’t seem like the most productive way to get a partnership moving in the right direction. Not all the questions we need to ask are relevant to other people, we ideally need to discuss specifics as they relate to our product and use cases.

General support are wonderful as you say for general product questions but are unable to answer any technical or API queries.

For what it’s worth I do think you have a gap here. When we’ve built integrations with other products, e.g. Xama, GoCardless, to name a couple of recent examples, we’ve been able to bounce questions directly off an engineer and it’s enabled us to build a much better integration much more quickly. Which of course results in a better experience for our users as well as ours.

Anyway, thanks for answering my landlord-related question in the other thread. I’ll have a go at posting some more questions on here and see how it goes.

Rob
