Our live site currently utilises FA with Stripe Connect to produce invoices.
I wanted to try extending functionality of our site to automatically update our FA books when purchases made with stripe.
got my FA sandbox set up no problems at company.sandbox.freeagent.com
go to company.sandbox.freeagent.com/settings/stripe
select Connect with Stripe
I can see our Live Stripe accounts and 1 ineligible account
Should I not be able to connect to our stripe sandbox via connect while in a Freeagent Sandbox? does Freeagent not support this?
Scratching my head on how to go about testing between the two, Stripe sandbox does have exposed API keys, does FA sandbox support connecting using these API keys instead?
Or am I supposed to use ‘Test Mode’ on our Live account?
Any suggestions appreciated

Hello Ross
I’m Brad from the Banking team at FreeAgent.
From looking at our Sandbox environment, you should be able to use ‘Test mode’ on your live Stripe account as our Sandbox environment runs on Stripe test mode. When connecting, do you see something like this on the Stripe website that confirms that you are currently in ‘Test mode’?
I wanted to try extending functionality of our site to automatically update our FA books when purchases made with stripe.
I noticed that you mentioned that you’d like to keep your FreeAgent books up-to-date with your latest Stripe purchases made via your website?
We’ve just launched a new Stripe automatic reconciliation feature today that might be useful for this!
Each day we will:
- Import the latest transactions from your Stripe account (including those made via your website)
- Add explanations to the ‘Bank/Finance charges’ accounting category for any fees that Stripe has charged you for each transaction
- Match any Stripe transactions to invoices in FreeAgent, if the invoice was paid via our Stripe integration
You can enable the new feature from the Stripe settings page via the Connections & Add-ons page and our Knowledge Base has a step-by-step guide to help you get setup.
I hope this helps?
– Brad
