Freeagent does not comply with google policies

I’m having an annoying issue with enabling the Bank Feed for Mettle account. I follow the steps to relink my Mettle account on a desktop machine, after scanning the QR code, I am asked to log in to freeagent on my mobile device (within the Mettle app), which I always use my google account to access. I am them met with the message ‘FreeAgent does not comply with google policies’ – Error 403: disallowed_useragent

If I try to enable bank feed within the FreeAgent app, Mettle does not feature in the list of options.

This suggested via an AI search … worth a shot? You can then interact and progress onwards perhaps?

1. Set Up a Standard Password for FreeAgent

The most reliable way to bypass the Google SSO restriction inside the Mettle app loop is to log in using a direct username and password.

  • Go to the FreeAgent desktop website using your computer.
  • Log in one last time using your Google account credentials.
  • Navigate to your User Profile settings in the top right corner.
  • Create or update a permanent password for your account.
  • Keep note of your registered FreeAgent email address and this new password. [1]

2. Relink the Bank Feed

With a standard password established, you can safely bypass Google’s restricted user agent check.

  • On your computer browser, head to the Banking tab in FreeAgent.
  • Select your Mettle account and click Enable Bank Feed.
  • Scan the QR code using your mobile device when prompted.
  • When the FreeAgent login page displays inside the Mettle app, do not tap “Sign in with Google”.
  • Manually type your FreeAgent email address and your newly created password into the standard fields.
  • Complete the multi-factor authentication steps to securely bind the feed.
