Journal support in API 2.0

With API 1.0 being turned off soon, I’d like to formally request the
ability to post journals with the new API.

My current use case is a small personal app I’ve written for better
handling of dividend paperwork generation for multiple shareholders (single
unified minutes, individual vouchers) and I intend to have this integrate
with FreeAgent by creating the necessary bank transactions when the
dividend is declared as “paid”. A nice feature I had in mind was being able
to declare a dividend paid by way of a loan to the participator’s loan
account, which can only be achieved using journals.

I’m sure other people would have uses for a journals API too.

I’d also be very interested in this feature. Manually entering payroll
journals through the web API is certainly the single thing that causes us
the most friction using FreeAgent at present. If we coudl automate this via
a script then we would be very happy customers indeed! On Thursday, October 24, 2013 5:54:32 PM UTC+1, Olly H wrote:

Hi Luke

This is on our API roadmap which we’re hoping to make progress against
soon. I can’t be more specific at this time I’m afraid but we can certainly
get in touch when we have something to beta.

Just in case anyone missed the announcement, support for journal entries
has now been released.

Hi Jon

Thanks for your feedback, which I assure you has been noted. We have to
balance our development time across a wide range of areas at FreeAgent and
the API has not been a main focus for a while, largely because it’s already
comprehensive enough for the large majority. That said we do plan to
improve some existing resources in the short term and journal support is
also on our medium-term radar, although it’s unlikely support for this will
be added in the next 3-6 months because of existing priorities in the
development team. Sorry to disappoint but I’d rather be upfront.
